How can schools prevent prejudice and racism? How should we teach about these subjects? And how can we handle extreme views and prejudice in the classroom?

Dembra's core idea is to prevent through building. Prejudices fill basic human needs connected to belonging, understanding and influence over one's own life. Prevention is about filling these needs with positive alternatives to prejudices, meaning building good communities and giving children and youth the tools they need to understand the world and to participate in society. In this work, all school subjects can partake.

On this page, you can find didactical reflections and tips from different subjects, for example physical education, mathematics and English. There are multiple angles to an inclusive pedagogy, such as knowledge about diversity, dialogue and perspective-taking. Inclusive pedagogy can be criticized for not considering what societal structures are responsible for creating outsiderness adequately. Forms of pedagogy challenging this approach try to change structures and power relations. Examples of such approaches are critical thinking, norm criticism and decolonial pedagogy.

Under this topic, you will find everything from specific tips to pedagogical and didactical theory. In addition, you will find activities and teaching plans focusing on pedagogical and didactical perspectives.
